How do you get your website found on Google?
A Genuine WhatsApp Message from a friend today.
“I was just with my physio talking about his brand and online presence (or lack of). Now I’m home I googled physios Ipswich. My question is what determines the Google ranking in the local Google list? How do you get top 5?“
What chat GPTGives,
My personal answer,

Run this sound file in the background, to learn more about the work you can do to get found on Google.
It's simple, genuinely.
You might think I am mad, sharing my secret on to how to get your website found on Google? There is no secret to the search engines and getting found.
I would rather help you with Google search ranking and optimisation tips and see you do well.
And I might not be that mad, and if you read below I will show you why.
Its all about keywords right? Yes, and 200 others, plus good content.
Regular, relevant, updated content.
So what is it with keywords and how best to implement them?
Be honest, relevant and to the point and don’t over do it as this is called keyword stuffing and you will marked down by Google.
I normally state that there are 200 smaller things that you have to do, to make it work for you. But the best advice is to be clear and simple, honest and think about the language that people use to search for your product or service and mention this on your website – A blog is a good way to to add content yourself and facilitates the need for regular relevant updated content.
Did you notice my keywords above?
This is a blog about Google Search Engines and How To Get Found Online.
Guiding Principles
What are the words, that come out of the end of the fingertips of the person searching for your product?
Easy if you are a plumber in Woodbridge right? Yes, but what if you put “blocked sink in Woodbridge“. Some people Google the problem, and if you have the matching text in some form and your website is healthy and easy to navigate to find your phone number, they will phone you to fix it.
Top tip: One page, one message.
I once sold kitchen worktops surfaces online.
When you search, you do not land on the home page of a website.
I had three pages, selling the same thing. Each page was keyword optimised for how three types of person described the product.
- Replacement Formica Laminate Worktop Rolls
- HPL Substrate High-Pressure Laminate (HPL)
- New Kitchen Worktop Covering Material
These are keword optimised landing pages, for how each different person would search for the same product.
Unique pages, for each product. This works for shop products too.
But do not rush in and do it all today.
Regular, relevant, updated content.
Spread your efforts over time. Add a page, change pages, update images and of course Blogging.
If i did not blog today, I would have updated content on my pages.
Images are just as important.
When I added the image above, I named, tagged and described it.
Google sees all of this. The name and the words you use against the image count towards the page relevance. This all builds on the keyword profile of the page. Google will then choose show you in the search results (+other factors of course)
EVERY IMAGE NEEDS TO BE NAMED AND TAGGED PROPERLY
If the image is one that you have taken with your camera, you must not upload it as IMG_3459824.PNG. Name it something that relates to the page or describes it.
If it is a stock image, change the name and do not use any images you have pinched from other websites. Google has image search and at the very least you will be marked down, maybe even asked for expensive royalties from the owner of the image.
Make sure that your images are not ‘too heavy’. So under 300k for larger images and 60k for smaller images. Mobiles need to download them and even some more remote PC’s can have poor connections.
You will lose people from the website if they take too long to load and Google will mark you down in the search rankings.
A poor quality image will put people off. A good image will help you to sell. You need images for sure, but name, tag them and make sure that they load properly.
What is Google Bounce Rate?
Each page of your website has a bounce rate.
Every keyword that someone found you for is recorded
Every long phrase that sent someone to your website is saved.
When someone only visits one page, it affects them all.
Your website will have an overall bounce rate.
Bounce rate is a metric that reflects the percentage of visitors who navigate away from a website after viewing only one page.
EVERY SEARCH ON THE PLANET IS RECORDED, AND EVERY JOURNEY THAT EVERY INTERNET USER TAKES.
Did Google do a good job the last time it recommended your website and sent someone over?
If they only clicked one page and left strait away, they could not have found what they wanted or thought your website did not deserve their time.
How it all begins…
On the 1st March your website goes live.
On the 3rd, someone searches “New Shirt” and they land on your website, click a few pages and end up on the contact us page.
This is a great result and Google knows this.
If 9 people search “New Shirt” and do not click any further, you have a 90% bounce rate for the term “New Shirt” and you are not likely to be recommended again.
Have you spotted it? What have I done to help bounce rate?
Did you come to this page from the “what does Chat GPT say?” page. If so, you were lead to click more than one page.
Note the buttons at the bottom of this page for you to read on… And click on.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Do not try and stuff everything and anything in your text. Keep it relevant and refined. No Waffle.
Make it easy to navigate your website so that people go on a journey. Navigation links and buttons.
Calls to action such as click here, and links in your text to other sources of information.
Make research easier - from your pages.
Google wants you to make it easy for people to search for what they are looking for. You may have seen red text lettering above. These are links to other ‘relevant’ sources of information. They open in a new window, to other websites for you to find more information.
Buttons to internal pages within this website also help with the all important bounce rate.
Adding embedded links in text, and routes to other trusted locations for information is a good thing – and why not. You are making the internet a better place and you will be thanked for it. You can keep adding, changing and re-visiting pages, adding in fresh links for good practice.
Another website?
Select “open in a new tab”!!
It is Googles job, to make it's searches better for its customers.
If you do what Google asks you to, and all the things I mention on this page, the internet becomes a better place.
If you are the one opitimising your website and doing the right ‘stuff’, you will appear in the searches over others.
This is not a black art, you just need to be honest, optimise your website and check your Gooogle Analytics for issues.
